The Florida Justice Association Research and Education Foundation has received a generous cy pres award of nearly $70,000 from a settlement agreement in the case of Ortega vs. Arrow Truck Sales in Hillsborough County Circuit Court.
The award was made possible by FJA member Roger D Mason, II, of Tampa, who represented the plaintiff in the case. “We deeply appreciate Roger Mason for being a champion for the FJA Research and Education Fund and its mission to consumer education mission. This award will enhance the Foundation’s critical consumer education mission,” said John Brazzell, executive director of the FJA Research and Education Foundation.
The funds come from money left over after all class members have received payment for their claims. Per the settlement order, the Florida Justice Association Research and Education Foundation is to use the funds “for the purpose of providing financial resources to advance research advancing the consumer protection laws impacting motor vehicle purchases.”
